  • In August 2023 Main Street Park Alliance purchased the property from Magellan Development Corporation. The property was previously owned and operated by Federal Screw Works.

  • MSPA has performed extensive environmental due diligence over the past 2.5 years. MSPA has completed Phase 1 & 2 testing, submitted the Baseline Environmental Assessment (BEA), Response Activity Plan, and Due Care Plan to the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE).

MSPA is working closely with the City of Chelsea, SME (their environmental consultant), EGLE and Washtenaw County Brownfield Authority to create the safest, most comprehensive plan.

  • MSPA signed a Development Agreement with The City of Chelsea in the summer of 2023. Upon completion of the property redevelopment, MSPA will transfer the property to the City of Chelsea. The City of Chelsea will own and operate the park. The annual operating and long term maintenance will be the responsibility of the city. MSPA will help fund a reserve fund to contribute to the City’s Park & Recreation expenses.

  • Main Street Park Alliance will raise the necessary funds to purchase the property, design and build the Park. Donations will be sought from community members, foundations, corporations, and local, regional, and state grants and available monies. To date MSPA has financial pledges for nearly 50% of the anticipated project costs.

  • Many of the possible park features have been previewed in the conceptual renderings: splash pad, skate park, walking paths, multisport court, playground areas and climbing features, etc. The ultimate selection of park features will be informed by multiple factors such as: environmental considerations, community input, City of Chelsea ordinances, Chelsea Parks and Recreation’s Master Plan, and stakeholder focus groups. MSPA is prioritizing youth engagement, both at the middle school and high school level. Sustainability and long term maintenance will also be considerations in the final design.

  • MSPA is estimating that the build will be completed by 2026.

  • The current project estimate is $8.3 million, plus environmental work.
